Maria Francesca Arruda de Amaral is a data analyst with the Department of Criminology at the University of Pennsylvania, working in partnership with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. In this role, she is conducting research on progressive prosecution’s impact on gun crime and racial disparities in the criminal justice system. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and wrote her undergraduate theses on policing in her hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and transnational organized crime in Latin America.
