Ruth Moyer received her Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was an Urban Studies Dissertation Completion Fellow. Ruth uses data analysis and quantitative methods to address policy-relevant research questions. Her previous research has included a quasi-experimental analysis of the place-based effect of outpatient methadone maintenance treatment facilities on crime (Journal of Experimental Criminology). In another paper, published in the American Journal of Public Health, she evaluated the effect of randomized vacant lot remediation on the frequency of shootings in Philadelphia. Ruth is the Project Director for an evaluation of the current Group Violence Intervention (GVI) implementation in Philadelphia. Before her doctoral studies, Ruth was a criminal defense attorney in Philadelphia for six years and served as court-appointed counsel for indigent clients.
